Minions: The Rise of Gru is a 2022 American computer-animated comedy film directed by Kyle Balda, co-directed by Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val (in Ableson's feature directorial debut), and produced by Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy and Chris Renaud, from a screenplay written by Matthew Fogel, and a story by Fogel and Brian Lynch.
It is the fifth installment in the Despicable Me franchise, serving as a prequel to the 2015 film Minions and the origin story of Gru, and is set in the 1970s.
